About Talk Ask Listen
Talk Ask Listen is The Do More Agriculture Foundation’s flagship workshop designed to help people across agriculture build the courage and confidence to talk about mental health, support someone who may be struggling, and connect them with appropriate resources.
Designed for: Producers, farm families, agricultural industry and organizations, and others who live and work in agriculture. Talk Ask Listen combines practical communication tools, agricultural experience and mental health expertise to build stronger cultures of connection and wellbeing across the agriculture sector.
Why Talk Ask Listen Matters
Mental health conversations don’t always come easily. In agricultural communities, people may notice that someone is having a hard time and feel unsure about what to say or how to respond. Silence stops people from getting the support they need.
Talk Ask Listen is a capacity-building, conversation-focused workshop — not therapy, counselling, or clinical mental health training. Participants build practical skills and confidence to talk about mental health, ask questions, be present and listen to connect, offer support, and guide to relevant resources, including mental health services, crisis lines and practical tools. The goal is to help people feel more confident to reach out, support one another, and build connected communities where people find belonging and hope.
Learning Objectives
Participants will:
Engage in a facilitated and supported mental health conversation in your community to break barriers and build strength.
Start and navigate supportive conversations about mental health with greater confidence.
Listen and respond in ways that show care.
Connect with relevant support.
Help create a culture where talking about mental health and asking for help feels comfortable and accepted.
About the Facilitators
Talk Ask Listen is delivered by facilitators who each bring a range of experience from agriculture, rural communities, mental health, clinical practice and peer support. This diverse perspective helps ensure each workshop is grounded in the realities of agricultural life while offering practical, informed approaches to talking about mental health.
Our facilitators bring different combinations of professional expertise, lived experience and community knowledge — reflecting the belief that meaningful mental health conversations can start anywhere.
Our Community Fund for Mental Health, sponsored by Farm Credit Canada, supports free Talk Ask Listen workshops for agricultural communities across Canada. Visit our website to learn more about the Community Fund and how to get involved.
