Property Assessments

You can expect that an Assessor will visit your property to perform an inspection at some time in a 3 year cycle. The purpose of these inspections is to ensure all assessment records are accurate and current so a correct Assessment can be developed.

Property assessment is the process of assigning a dollar value to a property for taxation purposes. This value, known as the assessed value, determines the amount of property tax owed by the owner. This is a key part of a system that fairly distributes the tax burden among property owners in a municipality.

The MD of Peace No. 135 sends out assessment notices to each landowner within the MD in February of each year. The assessment notice is not a tax invoice; it simply communicates the assessed value that will be used to calculate the property tax levy for each property (once the tax rate bylaw is approved by Council).

Property assessments are mailed in February. If you have not received a property assessment or have recently purchased property in the MD of Peace No. 135, you should contact the County's Finance Director at 780-338-3845 ext. 4 or by email.

If the property is non-regulated, the assessor must determine a market value of the property.
