The Municipal District of Peace No. 135 recognizes the value of grass growing in municipal road allowances, particularly during times of drought. To support agricultural operations, the MD will work cooperatively with agricultural producers who wish to utilize municipal road allowances as part of their farming operations.
Guidelines/Procedures:
- Municipal District of Peace No. 135 shall accept written requests from residents wishing to hay municipal road allowances adjacent to their lands until May 15th of each calendar year.
- Residents will be required to enter into a written agreement with the Municipal District of Peace No. 135 providing permission to the resident to hay the road allowance.
- Cutting and baling of hay must be completed by July 15th of each year.
- Bales are to be removed from road allowances within 72 hours or by July 15th, whichever occurs first. Failure to remove bales within 72 hours will result in the removal of the bales by the Municipal District of Peace No. 135. Costs associated with the removal of the bales will be charged to the resident granted permission to hay the road allowance.
- Bales must not be located on the foreslope of the roadside ditch.
- Bales must not be located close to culverts.
- Requests to hay municipal road allowances must be submitted annually. Municipal District of Peace No. 135 reserves the right to refuse permission to hay municipal road allowances.
- Municipal District of Peace No. 135 reserves the right to manage vegetation and carry out operations within the road allowance at any time.
- All hay produced from Municipal District of Peace No. 135 Road allowances is used at the producer’s own risk. Municipal District of Peace No.135 will not be held responsible for any adverse effects due to herbicides that may be active in hayed vegetation.
