IAAC Releases Summary of Issues for Proposed Peace River Nuclear Power Project
The Impact Assessment Agency of Canada (IAAC) has published a Summary of Issues related to the proposed Peace River Nuclear Power Project.
Some of the key issues identified include:
- Water use and potential impacts on the Peace River ecosystem
- Wildlife, fish habitat, and species at risk
- Public health and safety concerns related to nuclear operations and emergency preparedness
- Strain on municipal infrastructure, including roads, housing, and emergency services
- Impacts on Indigenous rights, culture, and land use
- Economic impacts on agriculture
- Nuclear waste transportation and storage
- How climate change may affect the project's safety and sustainability
The summary reflects the input received during the online public comment period (April 14 - May 14). 295 comments were received. Comments were received from local governments, residents, Indigenous communities, and organizations.
Energy Alberta, the project proponent, is now required to respond to the concerns and how it intends to address the key issues identified.
