Council Meeting Highlights

Council Welcomes Director of Operations
Council welcomed Erik Fuller to his new role as Director of Operations for the MD of Peace. Erik brings extensive experience in construction, project management, and municipal infrastructure across Alberta, Saskatchewan, and the Northwest Territories. He has a strong background, starting in a family-run landscaping business and advancing through various roles at E Construction since 2013. In his new position, Erik works closely with the Public Works Foreman and Recreation Supervisor to oversee the MD of Peace Public Works and Recreation Department, and collaborates with the Agricultural Services and Water/Wastewater departments to enhance operations and service delivery. As a resident of the region for a decade, Erik looks forward to contributing to the community and supporting the region’s growth and development.

2025 Budget Special Meeting
Council has scheduled a Special Meeting for December 3, 2024, to review and discuss the 2025 MD of Peace budget. 

Office Closure Over Christmas
Council approved the closure of the MD of Peace office on December 27, 2024. In accordance with the MD’s personnel policy, staff are entitled to an additional paid holiday during the Christmas season. The MD of Peace administration office will be closed at noon on Christmas Eve and reopen on Monday, December 30, 2024.  

V.S.I. Services Annual General Meeting
Council reviewed a request for MD representation at the upcoming Veterinary Services Incorporated (VSI) Annual General Meeting. Lori Kinnee, the MD’s designated representative, will attend the meeting on November 15, 2024. 

Public Works Policy
Council reviewed and approved updates and amendments to the Public Works Policy PW3 Drainage of the Village of Berwyn Sewage Lagoon. 

Land Lease at SW 3-82-26-W6
Council directed Administration to issue a public tender for the lease of an 18-acre parcel of land at SW 3-82-26-W6, owned by the MD of Peace. 

Bridge Repair
Council approved a tender from MPA Engineering Ltd. for the engineering and management of repairs on a bridge located at NW 25-81-26-W5M. The cost for engineering and management are funded through provincial grant funding from the Strategic Transportation Infrastructure Program and the Canada Community Building Fund. 

Lac Cardinal Regional Economic Development Request
Council reviewed information from the Lac Cardinal Regional Economic Development Board regarding their application for the Enabling Housing Choice North Project research initiative. This two-year initiative aims to explore and address barriers that restrict diverse housing development. Council will revisit the request at the November 26, 2024 Council meeting. 

Federation of Canadian Municipalities Conference
Council reviewed correspondence from a rural Alberta municipality regarding the Federation of Canadian Municipalities Conference and decided that Reeve Robert Willing would contact their Reeve to discuss the matter in more detail. 

Peace Country Beef Congress Sponsorship Request
Council directed Administration to contact the Peace Country Beef Congress regarding their sponsorship application and request they apply through the MD of Peace Grants, Donations and Funding Program.
