CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS!
MUNICIPAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN (MDP) REFRESH
The Municipal District of Peace No. 135 invites residents and other interested persons to join the Steering Committee for the Municipal Development Plan (MDP) Refresh project. Following are some information about the project and how you could be involved.
What is a MDP?
A Municipal Development Plan (MDP) is, essentially, a blueprint for how the municipality will evolve, thrive, and grow over the next 10 to 20 years. The MDP is the primary, long-range, comprehensive municipal planning document. The MDP sets the future direction for the community and provides a framework for decision-making on planning and other matters. A MDP is required under the provisions of the Municipal Government Act, and must address specific issues identified by legislation. Some of the key issues include future land use, municipal services, and policies dealing with agriculture, recreation, economic development, and the natural environment.
Why is the MDP being Refreshed?
The current MDP was adopted by the Council in 2009. Since then, the municipality has witnessed several changes in its population composition, housing, land use, and growth patterns, among others. While some of these changes reflect the vision, goals, and policies of the current MDP, others do not. Additionally, changes in Council priorities and provincial legislation over the years have also highlighted the need for a new community vision and plan.
What is the timeline?
The MDP Refresh project will commence in Spring 2025 and wrap up by Fall/Winter 2025.
How Many Volunteers are Needed and What Role will They Play?
The MD is seeking two members of the public to sit on the Steering Committee. Residents, business owners, workers, and former municipal staff are all welcome to volunteer. As a member of the Steering Committee, you will attend meetings, review materials, participate in discussions, take part in public engagement activities, and contribute to the content of the MDP. The Steering Committee will meet once a month on average (or less) until the project is completed. Meetings will be held at the MD Office in Berwyn.
Is there any Compensation?
There is no compensation for volunteers; however, it is hoped that volunteers will gain useful experience from participating in the project.
What is the deadline for Expressing Interest and Who Should I Contact?
If you are interested in joining the Steering Committee, please send a quick email including a brief introduction, expression of interest, and contact information (phone number and email address) to Dianna Butz, Assistant CAO of the MD of Peace No. 135, at dbutz@mdpeace.com no later than April 1, 2025.
Thank you!
