The Municipal District of Peace No. 135 is now hiring a full-time, permanent Director of Operations. Answering directly to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Director of Operations will be responsible for overseeing all operational aspects within the MD of Peace including but not limited to; 

  • Working closely with the Public Works Foreman and the Recreation Supervisor the successful candidate will provide strategic leadership, management and direction to the Public Works and Recreation Departments. 
  • The successful candidate will liaise with the Manager of Agricultural Services and the Manager of Water and Wastewater to ensure policy consistency and efficient allocation of resources across departments. 
  • The ideal candidate has strong overall computer skills, a minimum of intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to master new technology and integrate it into regular work procedures. 
  • The ideal candidate will lead continuous improvement by fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
  • The ideal candidate is safety conscious and willing and able to design, implement and enforce the MD’s current and future safety policies and procedures. 
  • The ideal candidate will be detail oriented, have excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills with a deep commitment to lifetime learning. 

Required Competencies, the ideal candidate is/has:

  • A seasoned and proven leader, with seven or more years of senior leadership experience.
  • Proven ability to plan and manage operational processes for maximum efficiency and productivity.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of handling difficult situations with diplomacy and tact.
  • Has education (training) and experience in most of the following: heavy equipment operation and maintenance, project management, contract administration, gravel pit operations, gravel road maintenance, safety legislation and the design and implementation of safety programs and policies. 
  • Education and experience in any of the following would be considered an asset, purchasing, engineering, parks, playgrounds and facilities maintenance, fleet management, asset management.

This position offers a competitive wage (85,000 – 125,000) dependent on the successful candidate’s specific combination of experience, education and overall fit for the role. This position is eligible for the MD’s pension plan (Local Authorities Pension Plan), three weeks’ vacation to start, health and dental benefits, generous sick time, special leave & long-term disability.
